Police say a bar-goer walked into the bathroom and helped stop an attempted rape at a downtown Springfield strip club this weekend.
Francisco Ildefonso-Sebastian, 32, was charged with attempted first-degree rape after police say he tried to force himself onto a woman in the bathroom of Softails until another patron intervened.
According to a probable cause statement, police were dispatched to Softails at 620 W. College St. just after midnight on Saturday in regards to a sexual assault.
The statement says a patron went to use the restroom at Softails and saw a man — later identified as Ildefonso-Sebastian — struggling with a woman.
The statement says Ildefonso-Sebastian was grabbing the woman and trying to remove her clothes while his penis was exposed.
The woman, meanwhile, was trying to pull her clothes back on and fight off Ildefonso-Sebastian, according to the statement.
The witness and another man pulled Ildefonso-Sebastian out of the establishment and held him until police arrived, the statement says.
Lisa Cox, spokeswoman for the Springfield Police Department, said the victim in this case was a patron of the bar, not an employee.
Ildefonso-Sebastian is being held in the Greene County Jail on $75,000 bond. He does not have an attorney listed for this case.
My first thought was that the victim was a stripper. I wonder if there is more to this story.

Did she come there with someone? Was she alone?
Another thing that surprised me was that the OTHER escorts on the site were not very empathetic when they heard her story. They said she should have screened better, which was kind of a cold response. I think women that are in the escort business are pretty hardened.
But yeah, roleplaying rape, that's fine if that's what you're into, and it's consensual, but real rape is definitely not okay.
