Amarillo police arrested an Amarillo man Thursday night on a marijuana possession charge after finding nearly 15 pounds of marijuana outside a strip club, Sgt. Brent Barbee said Friday.
Officers booked Gabriel Flores Diaz, 26, of Amarillo into the Potter County Detention Center on a charge of possession of marijuana over 4 ounces and under 5 pounds, Barbee said. The case is still under investigation and additional arrests are pending, he said.
About 11:50 p.m., officers drove by Players Club, 2121 E. Interstate 40, when they saw what appeared to be a drug deal taking place in the parking lot, Barbee said. Police then saw Diaz throw a bag under a vehicle, he said.
Police arrested Diaz and took the bag, which contained four packages of marijuana weighing about 4 pounds, Barbee said. Another Hispanic male suspect went into the club, left through the back door and has not been located, he said.
Police then called a K-9 unit to the scene, Barbee said. The dog sniffed and alerted on a black Acura belonging to Diaz, and police found about 10 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of the car, he said.
The total amount of marijuana seized was about 14 ½ pounds, a street value of about $18,000, Barbee said.
