Federal agents raid medical marijuana facility in Walled Lake

Two suburban Detroit medical marijuana facilities and the Oakland County home of area businessman and land speculator Romel Casab were among several locations raided Tuesday by U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration agents.
The CareGivers of America medical marijuana dispensary in Novi was one of the facilities raided, The Detroit News reported.
Casab is listed as a resident agent and formed the company in 2009, according to the newspaper.
A Walled Lake CareGivers, a sports bar in that community, and a Detroit strip club also were raided, The Detroit News and Detroit Free Press reported.
Raids were conducted at various locations, DEA agent and spokesman Rich Isaacson told The Associated Press Tuesday.
But Isaacson would not comment on what the locations were or if the searches involved medical marijuana. "We are in the early stages of an ongoing investigation," he said.
All of the search warrants have been sealed.
Michigan voters agreed in 2008 to legalize the use of marijuana in treating some health problems. But some facilities and growing operations have been raided.
Law enforcement officials have panned the law as poorly written, and an appeals court judge has called it a "maze." The American Civil Liberties Union has sued cities over anti-marijuana policies.
Casab, who has claimed to own the vacant and blighted former Packard car plant in Detroit, could not be reached Tuesday for comment.
