Adult Star Ron Jeremy Talks Porn at CES

LAS VEGAS - "Porn King" Ron Jeremy brought a little bit of the AVN Adult Entertainment Expo to the Las Vegas Convention Center and the Consumer Electronics Show(CES) Friday for a debate on the ins and outs of pornography in the age of the Internet.

Jeremy and Craig Gross, an anti-pornography media activist, faced off for "The Great Porn Debate," though the event was really more a light-hearted discussion.

Jeremy kicked off his opening remarks by referring to pornography as entertainment, not unlike football games. "World of sport versus world of spurts," he joked to the groans of the crowd."

"Porn is a cheap substitute for sex," countered Gross. "[It] has become [childrens'] sex ed. It's a false expectation."

Jeremy insisted that the industry only caters to the over-18 crowd. "We don't want kids to watch porn," he told the crowd. Though if they do, he added, there are far worse influences out there — like video games. "[Studies have] found that violent video games are much bigger a negative influence on kids."

Gross, on the other hand, argued that even while the porn industry may not be targeting children specifically, the Internet has made adult content nearly ubiquitous.

"The Internet has changed the game completely. What we used to have to work hard to find, you now have to work hard to avoid," Gross said.

The filtering, Jeremy argued, should be up to the parents. "Parents better start to learn the Internet," Jeremy said.

Gross, it seems, agreed with the sentiment, telling the crowd, "For the most part, kids are smarter about technology than their parents. That has to change."

Gross did, however, happily take a shot at Jeremy's own tech savvy, adding, "Ron uses a fax machine. If you want to get a hold of him, you have to send him a fax."

I have enjoyed reading all the new Las Vegas reviews and several of them have mentioned that they were in Vegas for the CES. New technology and strip clubs...sounds like I missed out! Any one make it to vegas for the CES? I wonder if founder was there himself.

No but I noted in news reviews that HDTV is going to be pushed out by 3D in a couple of years.

At some club a stripper and I got on the topic of Ron Jeremy and porn. She said she believes for most scenes he shot they taped his unit to the inside of his leg and just had him act out the screwing. I'm sure it was just a slap at the unattractiveness of Ron J.

Read a piece in USA Today on the flight home from Vegas on 3D TV. ESPN has been filming in it several times this fall. Test audiences were "blown away", but complained of "disorientation" when the camera angle was changed. That said, ESPN's first 3D broadcast will be a soccer match in June. Perhaps the idea there is one camera angle used from a distance at midfield?

Sam, start saving now for next year's convention. I heard from San Diego and LA-area dancers they were in Vegas to work the Consumer Electronics Show and Porn Show. Also heard annecdotal info from a mutual friend in San Diego the plane rides he had to and fro Vegas for business were always bustling with eye candy, he suspects were going to work the the clubs there.

it's always great strategy to check out the las vegas convention authority website and find the dates for the big conventions and trade shows, then book your trip accordingly. CES may be about the biggest for now, but there will be others this spring. the next big weekend might be the first round of the NCAA playoffs in mid march. generally, i've found that just about any weekend is a good weekend at the top clubs, like the rhino, with the exception of July/August. a bit slower then.
