Went to Maui over the holidays. Usually stay in relatively modest accommodations, because I enjoy sightseeing and not "resort" vacations. However, went to Wailea one day to see some beautiful beaches and fancy resorts. In Hawaii beaches are not privately owned and even in exclusive resort areas the owners must provide some parking and beach access for regular folks and locals to use. After walking along the shore trail for awhile, moved off the beach a bit and sat on a grassy hillside in the shade overlooking the beach. After some time two women and a guy came walking down the path... could have been from the "locals" parking or one of the resorts. They sat on the grass in front of me, looking at the beach. <br />

The guy got out a small pipe, lit it, and took a few puffs. Wacky Tabacco for sure. He gave it to the women, but by then it had gone out and they had a hard time relighting it in the wind. One of the women rolled over on her stomach, facing me, and noticed me for the first time. She laughed with embarrassment and the others looked and laughed as well. They got the pipe going and turned back to the beach. A minute or two later they got up and walked down the stairs to the beach, and away to the side, out of my sight. <br />

Now this beach was not the kind of place you would expect hot chicks to favor. Lots of families, people of all ages, builds, etc. Mostly white as whales or sunburned. Holiday vacationers from cold places. <br />
