Did You Know...Back In The Day

Did you know did you know back in the day at least when I first started dancing in the summer of 1977 well at least in Philadelphia and the surrounding counties... All of the bars and clubs had a talent agency then the girls would have to go to the agency's office to get their bookings I think for at least the first month and then they could call for their bookings after they proved they were reliable to show up for their scheduled times.
As best I can recall there were three agencies the one I worked for I believe had 70% of all the bars in the area and the other two lesser ones contracted out to the other 30% I think they all had the same fee you'd go into the office or call to get your bookings I guess most girls could choose most of their places they would go depending if they wanted to be closer or farthest away from wherever they lived kind of thinking some girls didn't want to do anything that was too close to their neighborhood as with most dancers at least back in the day they didn't want to bump into any family or friends because their dated one family or friends to know that they were actually dancers

Plus it was up to the people at the agency to make sure the right girls were going to the right clubs but I'm sure they tried to be as well rounded as possible and I'm sure each club had its own criteria of what they were looking for

Plus we used to get paid and I think we paid I think 10% of what the bar gave us and of course all that was recorded in the agency's book... And I believe at the time it was $12 to $15 an hour.. sometimes a little bit different they used to have lunch hours which were usually somewhere between 11:00 and 2:00 then they had cocktail hours which could have been anywhere from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. I know one bar I worked at the Esquire lounge they had 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. but when I worked the Cameo lounge their cocktail hour was 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.

I guess once you got done working for a week or every two weeks you actually would have to go into the office and pay them for all the shifts that you worked... I really miss those days none of this b******* that you got to pay a club to work there...
