I generally avoid chains like Deja Vu because they tend not to provide value for the higher prices they charge. Lap dances are often more expensive than at non-chains, and the dances themselves are often less interesting. As Diablo Cody wrote in her book Candy Girl, Deja Vu is usually not the best place for dancers due to asshole management.
Despite my misgivings, I visited the Deja Vu in Lansing because of the positive reviews it received here, and I am happy to say it did not disappoint. I went on a Tuesday, so money was not an issue - admission was a paltry $2. I was not hassled for a drink. A pleasant waitress eventually came over, and I bought a Coke for $1. There did not seem to be many bouncers around, and those who were there were not acting like assholes. The DJ was out in the crowd the whole time and was very vocal. He was annoying at times, but at least he was enthusiastic.
The vibe of this place was probably the friendliest I have ever experienced in a club. The dancers routinely asked if you'd like a dance, but they were not pushy and did not waste your time with a lot of chit chat. They were there to make money, but they were polite about it. The most unique aspect of the atmosphere was there were at least 10 college age girls there with friends and/or boyfriends, and the girls would routinely go up to the rail, flash their tits, and get a little personal attention from the dancer on stage. It was a nice bonus.
