It had been years since I had been to the Lamplighter, but business brought me to town and I had time to kill so I made a stop on a Thursday night. A few changes have been made but the general idea was pretty much the same.

This is kind of a neighborhood type bar. That's good because drink prices are pretty cheap. It was $3.25 for a beer when I got there and went up to $4 later in the evening. It's not quite as good because this isn't the best neighborhood in the Twin Cities. It isn't the worst either, but they do have security at the door and search people that come in later in the evening (they weren't searching anyone when I came in before 8). There was a wide range of people in the bar throughout the night and I didn't see any problems when I was there. They did have a $5 cover charge starting at 9 PM on Thursday through Saturday nights.

As others have mentioned, local laws prevent alcohol and nudity in the same room. They get around that law by having the stage behind a glass wall. Actually, they now have 2 stages that are connected by a walkway. This takes up almost the entire left wall of the bar. They have chairs along the stage and slots cut into the woodwork under the glass to tip the dancers. The dancers get nude very quickly if they are tipped, but may not take off much clothing if no one is tipping.
