Your perspective on Henry the 8th will largely be based on what type of strip club you prefer. If you prefer the cookie-cutter, Deja Vu-style approach to clubs with overpriced drinks and plastic-bodied girls, by all means avoid this place. If, on the other hand, you're a bit adventurous, can handle a little grime and dingy-ness, and can successfully fend off a near-absurd level of drink hustling, then I recommend a visit for a very unique experience if nothing else.

I'll be honest: the dancers here are not the cream of the crop. I noticed a trio of younger girls who weren't bad--probably trying to work their way into a better club--but far more on the flipside: older, alcoholic and on their way down, just like their boobs (Sorry, that was low, but I couldn't resist), and others whose courage you have to admire, if nothing else, for being in a profession where baring their mountainous flesh is required. The club has a funky, indescribable odor throughout and I thought the beer overpriced ($6.75) for what it was. As if that wasn't enough, about every 30 seconds a waitress comes by and pestered me for more shots and more and more drinks. Um, isn't it obvious that I had taken maybe 3 sips of the one you just brought me...30 seconds ago? Fortunately, I went on a Monday, which meant the infamous $10 dances. Ah, but here again, you get what you pay for: your $10 means a wristband for unlimited entry to the "VIP room"...a wood-paneled room with a bunch of chairs arranged in a circle.

So far, none of this sounds very appetizing, right? But this is Detroit we're talking about, which means--some of the time, anyway--that there is some satisfaction to be had. Generally the ladies aren't shy about lots and lots of touching both on the main floor and back room...of course, as mentioned, the back room is pretty much completely in the open, so use some discretion if you yourself are the shy type. Or go when it's not too crowded.
