I feel a special exhilaration about reviewing the Egoist Nightclub in Zurich. Not only am I writing the first review of the place – popping its cherry, so to speak! – I am writing about a European club. I’m pretty sure it’s tough to get reviews of clubs outside the States, so it’s great for the expansion of the reach of TUSCL whenever a member is able to go and check out a place beyond North America.
Mind you, I just checked it out. I had only one night in the city Monocle Magazine called The Most Livable City In The World earlier this year, and I started my night-crawling taking a bus and train to the city of Baden and blowing $80 on two hands of blackjack at the casino. Well, there goes my chance to win some extras money. I went back and had a Cuban cigar and a German beer at a nearby hotel, found out Brett Favre changed his little bitch mind about retiring again and deciding to play for the Vikings, and promptly passed out for a couple hours.
That meant I had 30-60 minutes to walk down about two or three miles at a little after 3 in the morning to get to Egoist Nightclub before it closed for the night. The only reason I chose this place over all the other review-less places is because I knew the cross-streets. It was eerie, but my late night sojourn highlighted two great things about vacationing in The Most Livable City In The World: It’s easy and relatively fast to get anywhere in the city on foot, and I felt totally safe walking. If you wanted to just walk alone late at night, I think you’d be totally safe doing it in Zurich, no matter the hour. All I saw on my way there were taxi cabs.
