Well, more than any other place...
Well, more than any other place I've been to in San Fran (Crazy Horse, Gold Club, O'Farrell, and the place down the block from O'Farrell) MSC is THE hustle joint. So, what follows is my advice to neutralize the hustle factor.
When you enter the cashier's position is such that it would be natural to then enter the theater on the left, which just happens to pass by the gals' locker room area. It's thereby natural for them to collect there and wait to grab a guy by the arm and offer you "a free tour". I literally got strong-armed straight to the back. To avoid this, enter the theater on the right. You will then walk in with the bar on your left. Take a seat at the bar but such that you can see the stage. In actuality, you will be able to see the whole place from this position, and THIS IS KEY. Order a drink and sit. Take time to watch the stage show(s). The girls will walk by and make pitches. You'll get a chance to converse, watch the stage, and see what girls are taking guys to the back (by either side of the stage), how long they're back there, etc. Plus, at the bar, chances are you'll have gals seated next to you, so the pitches and hustles, etc. will be more tame (because they hear each other.) ****For good karma, if the bartender is still a somewhat sexy asian gal, at some point while seated at the bar, ask her whether she does dances in the back. She'll say no, but take it as a compliment. And if the other dancers hear it, well, they communicate with each other. I swear this little gesture straightened this place out for me for the rest of my visit.****
But until I learned to hang out at the bar.... aye! I got hustled in the back. "Pay the tax", "Pay the camera guy", etc. I got a $40 dance with one gal who claimed to be a former porn star, and all she could say during the dance was "I want to come over to your hotel room". Uh huh. Never in my life and I wasn't going to go down that road now. Then for our time together she wanted money for the tax. Okay, I paid it. Then when I didn't order up anything further, our time together ended and all I have are the memories... is it really this easy to get a gal back to your hotel? Well, from what I learned later on through talking with the gals at the bar and what I was seeing firsthand, the recession has hit the take-home for the gals working here hard. One of the best-looking girls said she isn't making anything close to what she once was. So, yes, I guess it is really easy here to find a gal who will come to your hotel room.
