Does anyone think that Phoenix has one of the best stripclub scenes in the country? With the warm weather, growing population and the co-ed talent of quite possibly the hottest university in the nation (Arizona State), the Phoenix-Tempe-Scottsdale area should rival Houston, East St. Louis and Tampa as Lap City. (This would be a good topic for the Discussion Board.) After looking at some of the reviews here, I tamped down my expectations, but still thought the scene was worth checking out by sampling two clubs. I’ll quickly review my disastrous night at Bourbon Street Circus sometime later. But after spending a couple hours at The HiLiter (no hyphen apparently) Gentlemen’s Club, I will give Phoenix this: They have their shit together. Now, if that means it makes this a great strip club city. …

Traffic in the Phoenix area, in my opinion, is horrendous. The Southwest United States, and this city in particular, has seen explosive growth, but it wasn’t manifest until I dragged my tired, hung-over ass into my car and started driving to the HL in a panic because I wanted to get there much earlier in the day. Getting from Scottsdale, where I stayed, to the HL shouldn’t have been more than 20 miles, but it took me, seriously, between 45 and 60 minutes to get there (and this was in the afternoon, well past lunchtime). And once I got off the freeway, I got lost getting there, too. If you don’t have GPS or some patience, you might get lost.

The club is located in a commercial area, just north of downtown and the airport. The parking lot is small, but I got a spot in the back where the dumpsters were. Two very nice gentlemen greeted me up front. The first one is the nicest guy who has ever checked me out with a metal wand that I have ever seen. Guess I understand why he had to do it, but it was my first time so it was a shock. Stupid gun laws. The second did what no bouncer at a nudie bar has ever done: Referred to me by name after he checked out my ID. Professional. And then once I got through the door (no cover during the day) I was met by a third person that led me to my seat.
