I was visiting Portland, Oregon from out of town, and decided to take a break from work at the Stars Cabaret. The evening started out fine, and I had spent some money on a dancer called Amore. When I was about to go home at about midnight, I only had $30 left in my pocket. With $20 per dance, I asked Amore for one last dance. Since I was already tired, I was not sure when and if the song had already ended. But when the DJ started talking, I clapped and started to get up. Amore motioned for me to stay seated, and she continued dancing. So, I thought the song had not already ended. After a while, I started realizing that it was already the second song because it was too long for just 1 song. I asked Amore if it was already the 2nd song. When she said yes, I started getting worried since I only had $30 left in my pocket. Amore she threatened me that I had to pay $40 or I would get in trouble. She witheld my driver license until I could pay her the $40. I tried speaking to the bouncer (big, bald guy) to reason with him. I asked what was the big deal about $10 when I had already spent more than $60 on Amore on dances and tips, and I had even bought her 2 drinks. The bouncer threatened to call the cops, claiming a theft of service. He said that once the cops arrived, I would be booked and would spend the night in jail. At this time, I started getting angry. I had wanted only 1 more dance, but Amore duped me into getting 2 dances, and the bouncer made me feel I was the bad guy. He obviously lied too about the consequences of calling the cops. When the cops arrived, I was already really tired. I wanted to return to the hotel asap and go to bed. So, I decided to just pay the $10 I supposedly owed with my credit card. Before I left, I heard the club manager apologizing to the cops that he was new, and he would change the club policy for the dancers to ask the customers first before giving them more than 1 dance. That sounded to me like an admission of fault.
Overall, Stars Cabaret is a pretty good club. I'm sure most customers are satisfied with the club, and so was I initially. However, this incident with Amore, the bouncer and the club manager made me decide that it is really a shady club. Running a club, just like running any regular business, should be about building good relationship with customers. But of course, Stars Cabaret decided that $10 was worth screwing a customer over.
