Visited on a Monday night at around 7:30 pm. No cover charge and there were 2 girls doing 3 song sets on one stage. This is arguably the best decorated club in the city, rivaling Union Jacks with leopard skin carpet, heavy copper covered tables, red paisley like wallpaper, cool wall lights, and a fancy gas fireplace with a flame that must be about 3 feet tall. The atmosphere is classy, but with an elegance that is somehow also laid back. I felt really comfortable.
There is only 1 stage in the far right corner, but it is really cool. It is a quarter circle with mirrors on each wall, a rigid pole in the center and two rigid poles spaced evenly on the tip rail. The tip rail itself was a quarter circle about 24 inches or so wide which allowed the dancers to do some great tricks inches away from those at the rail. The Lucky Devil Lounge stage also features several monkey bars mounted between beams in the ceiling, so the dancers can do some very unique ceiling tricks.
Wait service was excellent from a little brunette hotty that, as in most clubs, could compete with the dancers in looks and personality. The menu has the basics with a couple fancier entrees thrown in, such as the sirloin tips, which I tried. For around $10, this dish could hold its own against any of the better restaurants in town. I didn't ask, but I've got a hunch their cook went to chef school, because $8/hour grill cooks don't typically roll out dishes like that. I would come here just for the food!
Anyway, up until about 9 pm there were only 2 or three of us in the whole place, which didn't exactly motivate the dancers. I chatted briefly with both and they admitted being tired and sort of hanging on until shift change. At 9 pm the schedule, which is posted on their website, called for Rocket, Aris, Lux and Germany to dance, but Rocket I was told had to work at Devil's Point. The three girls remaining took turns doing 3 song sets and the place started to fill up by 10:00 pm or so with several guys tipping nicely. Aris, Lux and Germany are excellent, high energy dancers. They put on a hell of a show and were paid nicely, but they each have that tough girl alternative look. It would have been nice to see at least one long haired bleach blonde glamour model to throw in with the mix. I think such a girl in a place like this could make a mint. And what do I know, perhaps she works some other night.
The DJ, who started at 9, needed some help managing his transitions between songs and sets. There were several times when suddenly there would be a 20 second period of no music followed by the blast of a high volume song already started. This was annoying.
