Sammy's has been at it's current...

Sammy's has been at it's current Bimingham location for at least 15 years, but the inside of the club is still fairly up to date and comfortable. The outside is brick, windowless, standard strip club architecture with several large flashing signs to let you know you've arrived at your destination. When you walk in you're greeted by a security guard who'll ask for a $10 cover (it's been that price all 3 times i've been this year), but there is no drink minimum. The main stage is towards the back of the club and is always occupied, one girl at a time for about 10 minutes each. There are about 4 additional small stages throughout the club, at least 2 of which will be occupied on a regular Saturday night. The DJ plays a good mix of classic rock, pop, and hip-hop and doesn't talk excessively. The customers at Sammy's are characteristic of Birmingham metro's population makeup: about 60% European American, 30% African American, and 10% Latin American. I don't drink so I don't know how much they cost, but most of my friends I went with had at least 2 each so they can't be too expensive. I also have not tried the food, but I have a friend that's been for lunch several times who says the food is pretty good and I believe there is no cover at this time.

Sammy's dancers are aren't Playboy bunnies but 90% have at least one thing that makes them attractive. When we visited there were no big girls present, but there were 1-2 really thin dancers. There were probably 10 Euro. Amer. dancers, 3 Afr. Amer. dancers, and maybe 1 Latin Amer. or Asian Amer. dancer. No more than 40% of the dancers had breast implants, the rest were all natural. All on stage dances are topless. Most of the girls were really friendly and give you a nice 20 second dance on the main stage for $1, if you tip a couple of dollars when they come off stage they'll give you a hug. The thing about Sammy's I like the least is the general no-touch atmosphere of the club. You don't touch them when you tip on the main stage; you may get a little luckier if you tip at one of the smaller stages but your hands won't be squeezing much at this club. We didn't know what the private dances were like, so I decided to be the guniea pig for my crew. After asking several dancers for private dances I found that most of them charge $20-25. I finally got one from one of the cute ladies that I had had my eye on all night and she led me to an area on the left side of the club that had about 5 poles in front of a mirrored wall, each with one seat in front of them. For the next song (about 3.5 minutes) she proceeded to dance about 2 feet in front of me, brushing up against my lap only once the entire time. I saw the guy about 5 feet to the left of me get the same treatment from another dancer. I fully understood why they called it a private dance and NOT a lap dance! Another Sammy's dancer had previously told me I could pay something like $75 to go into a back area with a couch, but she also said that it was definitely not worth it. Lap dances are by far the best part of going to a strip club for me, so this club could never be one of my favorites. However, i've been to most of the clubs tuscl.com has listed for Birmingham and none of them offer what I would call a standard one price lap dance, so if you are looking for somewhere to see nice looking women topless Sammy's isn't so bad.

P.S. Last year I found some no cover charge passes for all of the Sammy's (they have locations in AL and FL) in one of those independent magazines for Bikers in Alabama/Northern FL. I don't remember the name of the magazine but I found it in Sharky's restaurant in Panama City, FL. Be on the lookout!
