Having been a staunch fan of the (lower) Brass Rail over the years, I finally decided to give the Upper Rail a try. The first difference between the two is the $20 cover charge. As luck would have it, I came behind a large group and was able to get in without paying the cover.
The biggest difference between the two is the atmosphere. Upstairs is a more intimate atmosphere. There are only tables (no stadium seating and no perverts row). While downstairs women will ask you for a dance and then move on if you decline, upstairs they are inclined to ask to sit down and chat. I did not see a huge qualitative difference between the dancers upstairs and downstairs. There were fewer upstairs and I would say that approximately 1/2 also work downstairs. There were a few faces I hadn't seen and many of them said that they only worked the upstairs. Unfortunately, none of them were so exceptional that they are worth mentioning by name. One that looker that stood out in my mind was Luiz, but I by the time I realized that her body was smokin, I had already declined a dance. (Unfortunately I was not able to get her attention again that night.) From her stage show I'd say that her dances were probably pretty good. The Rail's quality is usually very good. Upstairs continues that tradition. If your looking for more conversation than business, then it might be the better choice for you. The gals know that you pay a cover to come up there, so they do treat you a little more gingerly. On the downside, though, you are up there with the big spenders and if you find the right gal you might want to grab her as getting her attention later might prove difficult.
