I was invited to DV8 by a co-worker who is always wanting to try out new clubs in the trashy SE Portland area, so my expectations were low--I honestly thought it would be a dive. The entrance door, and the only thing bad about the whole night, confirmed my fears. It was hard to open and once it gave it flexed like it was broken inside. It would have doubled nice for the door to a tool shed on an old ranch.

Anyway, things got better right away. There was no cover charge and this was on a Thursday night at 9:00 pm. The atmosphere inside the club was very inviting. The lighting level was just right--not so damn dark that you had to wait 15 minutes to see and not so bright as to pick up every razor burn or panty mark on the dancers. The walls were decorated with erotic art and the overall decor certainly suggested someone had spent some time on it. The club was small, but layed out nicely with a game room with pool, two stages and the bar. The bathroom was the cleanest and nicest one I've been in for a small club.

A cute waitress showed up right away and quickly brought out my drink and a menu. She was great--not bitchy and indifferent and not chatty, just businesslike. I got a great big New York steak cooked exactly the way I wanted it for $9.75--I gave her $14. The food was great! This was easy a $28 to $50 meal at decent restaurants in town, so I was pleased.
