The Red Room, renamed from the Golden Nugget when it was taken over by the former owners of the Red Room of South Broadway a couple of years ago, seems to be finding its niche. Rob the bartender is creating a fun, low-pressure atmosphere that seems to be getting a good and satisfied crowd. Eliminating the canine element from the dance-staff is part of it. From newbie sweeties to old block "hands", physical attractiveness - a missing criterion in many of the other Block bars - seems to have become a key element of the recruitment strategy. But there also seems to be a sense of conviviality among both patrons ands staff that has gone a long way toward improving the total experience. Of course, the partitioned "VIP room" in the back helps too!
