The White House Was a Wash

While in Auckland, I checked out the White House. Supposed to open at 8p, but when I arrived 8:30p, the metal gate was down. So decided to kill some time at a little French restaurant across the street (Le Garde-Manger - highly recommended, BTW! 👌)

While wrapping up, the club's gate swung up and lights came on. So, I ambled over to what I would describe as a Greek-inspired building - a couple levels, grand staircase, and white columns everywhere. I read it was run down, but looked good to me - like a theater with red carpet, decorative walls, and fancy trim.

$25 AUD entry (~$17 USD). I gave the lady a $50 AUD bill, and she returned $25 AUD in faux $2 AUD notes. Club money to facilitate tipping, because normally the smallest bill would be $5 AUD. The notes were laughably large, like cardboard Monopoly money. Not conducive to making it rain. 😅
