What the…?
On a recent trip to Houston I had a bit of free time and I decided to stop here. Quite a few years ago I had visited several times a year, but since I no longer live in the area I hadn’t patronized Houston Dolls for a very long time. The physical facility has changed a lot for the better, but that’s the only good thing I can say in this review.
I arrived at just after midnight to a nearly empty parking lot and should have turned around then. Security stopped me outside the building and gave me a light pat down. I entered and paid a $10 cover, then walked through a magnetometer, which went off and was ignored. To the far right there is a bar. The bartender was seated, reading a tablet and ignored me until a dancer yelled at her. A Coke cost me $6. I then walked to a table and sat waiting for something, anything, to happen. It didn’t.
The main room used to feature a large stage to the left of the entrance and a smaller caged stage in the center. That has all been taken out and replaced with a long peninsular stage with table and chair seating on both sides. Along the whole far wall opposite the entrance there is now an elevated seating area divided into 3-4 large booth-like areas. The dominant color is a medium gray and lighting is low but quite comfortable. The whole decor looks new and is now what I’d consider fairly classy.
