Checking out one of my old haunts
The first time I went to TJ's it had just opened and that was over 30 years ago. It was maybe 10 minutes from my house and it was always nice atmosphere. Over the years as I've moved I've gone less and less, until today I hadn't been there in probably 6 years but decided to give it a try since I was in there area.
It's in a small strip mall that has never been a great neighborhood but over the years has gotten worse. During the day it's a perfectly fine area but after dark I would be a little more cautious than usual. Cover was $15 when I went with an $8 drink, what struck me this time when I went in is that the stage layout has not changed since I first went there, it's a small square in the middle of the room with a mirrored wall at the back. The club itself is small, there used to be chairs all around but now they have a couch lining 3 walls with some simple chairs at the rail. Towards the DJ area there are now some high top tables which is kind of nice instead of the usual too low rolling chairs most clubs seem to have. Behind one side there are small booths for the private dances, they used to be smaller and had curtains now they are very open. I didn't get a longer VIP so I don't know how that area is.
There were about 6 girls working when I went, honestly none more than a 5, one girl was laying on one of the couches sleeping. That's a first for me at a club. A girl who was dressed like a dancer came over and welcomed me but it was interesting because she talked like she was the manager and didn't ask for a dance or anything. Just kind of told me how things were and they were going to try and get some girls on stage soon. That was also a first for me but I have to say it wasn't a bad move.
