An evening of surprises, some good, some bad, some weird
I decided to go for a relaxing Sunday evening. Even though I've lived in Houston decades, I had never gone to Men's Club. As you enter there is a large boutique on your left and the hostess is very friendly. You can tell she's been trained to deal with the upscale people that frequent the club. I paid $15 for the cover and walked inside. Judging from all the Benzes and Beemers in the parking lot, I figured there would be quite a few folks enjoying a good time.
I was surprised to be one of only two patrons at the whole club but there were plenty of ladies sitting at various places and at the bar area. I went up to the bar to order my usual-bourbon neat. Another surprise came when I saw that they only had about three or four different bourbons and the best one was Knob Creek 9. I realize this is a club review so permit me this digression.
Knob Creek 9 is fine. You can find it at most candy stores but it's a very middle-of-the-road, ordinary bourbon. For a place like this, I would have expected some Buffalo Trace allocations or some Whistle Pig ryes. Given that lots of men my age and of means come to this place, it surprises me that they didn't have anything better...
