Intro

DG is a club that bills itself as “upscale” in comparison to close by competitors such as Toots, Scarletts, and Cheetah Hallendale. This place has runs where it can be very good in terms of dancer quality and times when it’s very lacking. The club is not big and yet not small. It has a cozy, laid back vibe that can be vibrant when busy, and hollow when traffic is low. The place in the past had elegant dancers with great variety, especially from Eastern Europeans and some Russian talent. Around the time of the pre-Covid era and certainly the post Covid era, DG became a haven for Cuban dancers that basically came in and took over and dominated the club. Gone were the nice blond Eastern Europeans and Russians and the occasional AA. After the Covid era, young Cuban spinners dominated the landscape. A good number of those young Cuban spinners came from the clubs up in Pompano who came down to Miami to score more $$$. The days of having a beautiful Eastern European sit at your table and strike up a conversation were gone. The Cuban MO of what’s your name papi and do you want a room had taken hold in DG. It’s been over a year since I had gone to DG and on this visit at least I started to notice a shift in the variety of the talent.

For the first time in close to a decade of coming to this spot I finally saw a tall, blonde Nordic type bombshell instead of the typical Cuban Barbie dolls. That’s not to say the Cubanas are gone completely, but I would say that on the night I went the Cubana ratio was around 60 percent instead of the typical 90 percent. The new talent circulated more often around the club than the Cubanas who sat in the back near the open dance room area staring off into their cell phones. I only recognized one face (Cubana of course) but the rest of the talent was new, but at the same time unremarkable outside of the tall Nordic looking bombshell. It also looks like a lot of the young Cubana spinners that came from the Pompano clubs are gone. Not sure if this shift is going to be long term but I was stunned by the variety on this night. Another thing I noticed was that the Cubanas that worked on the night I went were older and thicker than what this club typically has hired in the past, which is young, short spinners on the skinny side.
