Syn Grand Opening Night was Alright
Arrived at 8:30p, a half-hour after their Grand Opening. Even though I had a rough idea where Syn (the former Swinging Richards) was, I drove right past because there was no signage and little lighting. Just a big dark building on the corner of Northside Ave and Green Street. I drove around the block, saw the entrance on the Green Street side, but no obvious parking lot. So I parked free on the street one block over. When I walked up, I finally saw they were using what looked to be another business's parking lot across Green Street, which they marked by a small valet sign. I imagine improvements in signage are coming.
A friendly security dude greeted me at the bottom of the ramped entry, looked at my license (no scanning), and said the guy at the top of the ramp would frisk me. A light frisk and I then paid the pretty entry girl $10, plus a $2 tip.
I then walked into a large rectangular, well lit, and high-ceilinged room. I was impressed by the renovations. They resisted the Vegas casino motif, going instead with muted grey and beige tones in the carpet, grey faux alligator upholstered booths, and grey club chairs. All of it new, so exceedingly crisp and clean. A bar flanked the right long-side of the room, with a couple dozen high-backed bar stools. An elevated rectangular stage filled the center, with 3 poles and spikey chandeliers above. The club chairs occupied the space between the bar and stage, with U-shaped elevated booths lining the far wall, similar to Onyx but without the smoked glass facade. Finally, the very clean and staffed bathroom was to the right of the entry, with the VIP space to the far left end down a hall
