Satin Dolls Hasn't Changed
I haven't been to Satin Dolls in maybe 10 years. The girls back then were a cut below Private Eyes (now Flashdancers) around the corner on 45th, mostly 5's and 6's. But they were friskier women, mostly hispanic, and sometimes you could find a gem. That continues to be true.
It's not so much a strip club as it is a bar with a bunch of girls in the back. You enter into a shallow bar with coatcheck on the right. $20 admission, pay what you want for coats. There's nothing about the bar that would lead you to think it's a strip club. TV Screen, mixed crowd of guys at the bar. None of the girls were hanging out in the bar; they were in the next room.
In the back room is a storefront wide room with high ceilings and a sunken floor, creating a dance pit. The walls are decorated with larger than life Vargas like drawings of women that emphasize the ceiling height. There is a really tight stage on the left as you come in. There's a pole, but It's so close to the wall it limited the dancer's repertoire. The rest of the room was clusters of low rolling armchairs you have at any strip club, only these were heavily used. There were long cushioned benches around the corners at the back of the room, where a door led to the Private Area.
