Opens at 6pm, but even that is too early.
This club looked to have some potential based on previous reviews, so I ventured into downtown Lansing to give it a try. It's in a nice part of town near the baseball stadium, and while there was some street parking there is an adjacent lot off a side street. However, I was not able to find a rear entrance so I had to do the perv walk past a restaurant with some outdoor dining to get in the place. When I went (around 8pm) there was no door man and therefore no cover.
Omar's is three stories, with the bar and stage on the main level, an area for private dances downstairs, and another lounge and bar (and the bathrooms) upstairs. The men's room was clean, although the walls, or really partitions, were unfinished with wiring and piping exposed. The upstairs bar was empty save for one presumably manager going over some bookkeeping.
At the main level I ordered my goto (Stella) which I was told they do not stock, so I got a skunky tasting Heineken instead. The lighting didn't really lend itself to reading the expiration date. There was one "dancer" on stage while I was there, but she literally never stood up from doing floor stretches to attempt to dance. I got pounced on by a friendly if unattractive dancer who didn't get the hint that I wasn't trying to make conversation with her. When I asked about the quietness of the place she said it doesn't get going until after the local bars close. However I have been in other clubs with three dancers and three customers (as there were when I was there) and they certainly did floor shows and operated like a strip club. I finished my beer, took a piss in the construction zone, and left. All told dropped 9 bucks.
