Went here with a friend simply because of its legendary status. The neighborhood was better than I expected, but there are alot of aggressive panhandlers - just like everywhere in SF.

I was shocked at how nice the club was - I expected a real dive, but it was quite clean inside.

First, I parted with 40 dollars at the door. I hate to say goodbye to so much money up front, but I would have to say that it probably restricts the overall number of guys inside, and also ensures that they aren't total sleezebags.
