sinclair's Review
I went to Knockouts on a Saturday night at 21:30. Upon entering, there is a desk along a hallway to pay the cover charge. There was a $10 cover charge to get in. It appeared that you couldn’t just sit anywhere. A bouncer was radioed and escorted us to a high-top table. The walls were covered with television screens broadcasting soccer, baseball, and mixed martial arts. The bar is to the left as you walk in. The main stage is a ten foot by ten foot boxing ring about three feet off of the ground, located in the middle of the floorplan. There is a pole in the middle of the boxing ring. The ring ropes make tipping a little awkward. There are no chairs around the boxing ring, so you have to stand when you tip the stage. On the far left wall is an outdoor shed built next to the building which serves as a game room and smoking patio.
Knockouts is more of a sports bar with strippers than an upscale gentlemen’s club like the Gold Room next door. Most of the music is reggaeton, and the club definitely caters to a Hispanic clientele. Beers came in sixteen ounce tallboys. Most beers are $8 (Corona, Tecate, Dos Equis, Coors Light, Miller Lite, Stella Artois). However, Modelo is $9 per can. Miller High Life and seltzers are $7. Knockouts does not carry Anheuser-Busch products. There was a deal where a bucket of five beers was $36, so I got blitzed for two Jacksons. Shots are between $8 and $12. The club has a kitchen, but the food is a little pricey. An order of two tacos costs $10. A hamburger costs $17. A pizza is $20. The ATM has a maximum withdrawal of $200 per transaction with a ten percent fee.
There were fifteen dancers on the shift. Ten dancers were Cuban. Two dancers were Mexican. Two dancers were African-American. One dancer was Caucasian. Only the white dancer and three of the Cuban girls were private dance worthy. Some of the dancers were just too chunky to be attractive. Most of the Cuban dancers don’t speak English, so you will have a better time here if you can speak fluent Spanish. There is no contact at the stage. You can only toss your dollars into the boxing ring. I tried to put dollars into a dancer’s g-string and got yelled at. Dancers are supposed to get topless on stage, but only one of the dancers dropped out her mammaries during her stage set. There were very few tippers; the crowd was cheap. If you tip as little as $3 or $4, the dancer will come find you on the floor when she is done on stage.
