Visited the "Platinum Pony" Friday night. Appears the staff is almost composed of all former Platinum Plus employees and the majority of the dancers used to appear also at PP. However, before anyone gets all "giddy" for the second coming of PP, it's like the ole saying "appearances can be deceiving". This club on the weekend (probably its best nights) is no where close to the energy level of the former PP. The atmosphere in the club is like a morgue compared to the fun and exciting ambience that was PP. It begins with the club advertising valet parking, but no one offered to park my vehicle. Then you enter the club and in the middle they have a runaway type stage almost the length of the club. This stage takes up needed seating and makes it difficult for the dancers and patrons to circulate to find that sought after entertainer. The stages at the tables for table dances is a nice touch, but with the dancers restricted in their performances these type dances are a waste of funds...IMO. Unfortunately, the former PP dancers that are here now are not the upper echelon of the gorgeous ladies of PP. Only about 5 of the best are here. One tradition of PP that is here, is that wonderful (sic) panhandling for dollars by the dancers. Maybe the original Pony dancers can't handle the competition and have seen the "light". They also need to be more friendly and speak to all customers. You never know who just had a windfall or is in the mood to spend $$$$$. The additional charge for the VIP viewing area is a rip-off. This club does not have the quality of a Scores (NY) or Spearmint Rhino (Vegas) to try and be an exclusive upscale gentlemen's club. The VIP dances are done on the most uncomfortable padded benches. There is some privacy from the adjacent cubicle which is nice, but the seating area is too narrow and upright to be comforable. Put in some real sofas or "dance beds" and now were moving toward being that ultimate strip joint that it advertises to be. The VIP dances are $30 and the mileage is mediocre. Security constantly monitors the dances so that is probably the most you will get at this club or any club in the city given the current conditions. This is probably the best club left in Memphis, but it is nothing special. RIP PP!
