Bucket List
While I travel a lot for work, I haven't been able to score a trip to San Diego until now. Hong Kong has long been on my bucket list and I was finally able to cross it off. In preparation, I read tons of reviews and browsed through the TJ subreddit. Special shout to Ron and his incredible trilogy on HK and TJ in general.
I landed in San Diego Saturday afternoon, checked into my hotel, and had dinner with a friend in gaslamp. After dinner, I headed for the trolly station (the trolly to the border is really quite a cross section of humanity).
I got off the trolly at about 8:40. The first thing I wasn't prepared for was the smell. I don't know if it was just how the wind was blowing or what, but the smell of raw sewage was disgusting. The walk into Mexico was also longer than I imagined it would be. When I got to the border station, there was no line and the woman working filled out a card, stuck it in my passport and waved me through. Once I got out to the street, I grabbed the first cab in line and was off to HK. When we arrived I just gave the guy $10 and he was fine with it.
