Gallaghers 2000 is fun again?! I think we're back?!
I am writing this review after visiting on back-to-back days, on Wednesday and Thursday during the same week. I have been visiting Gallaghers since it had a much bigger party scene 15-20 years ago... and has seen many ups and downs. That being said, this is the first time back in about a year, when I really thought it was set to close down. But I think it may be hitting its stride in the post-COVID era.
Neighborhood: It's on a dark and quiet avenue off of a brightly lit and busy Queens Blvd. To the untrained eye, this area does certainly feel a bit shady and may feel that it's unsafe to leave their car in the neighborhood. But in the past few decades, I have felt safe and my car has always been fine deep into the night. I find that the location is somewhat perfect... close enough to a big street that I have easy access home and quiet enough on a side street that it's more private and anonymous. Before COVID, they had a garage next door that was free and always open. But since the club has gotten far less busy, I have not seen in open ever. It's fine... there's usually always street parking 1-2 blocks away at most.
Entrance: There's a metal detector and a coat check before you enter. On Wednesday at around 9pm, I entered and there was no one there. No one to check my ID, take a cover or anything. The security guy might have been taking a break. On Thursday at the same time, a security guy was there to take my ID, check me through the metal detector and a woman to take my $15 cover. I think the cover is basically Thurs/Fri/Sat thing. But the interesting thing is that once inside, both nights featured the same amount of patrons and girls... about 15-20 each on both nights. I'll have to check it out Fri/Sat to see if anything is different. When I visited last year on a Fri/Sat, it had the same amount of patrons/girls this time.
