Same as it ever was
Required stuff: purple building at the foot of the passyunk ave bridge houses a rectangular bar that surrounds the dance stage. to the right of the entry are two private dance rooms with a small window in each door. to the left of the entry there is a man at a counter who collects dance money and cover charges (after about 7 I think) and behind him there is a large open couch room. there are 4 TVs around the bar, one on each side, if you get bored with the talent or if no one is dancing.
Stopped in a 4-ish on Saturday. Parking lot was fairly full -- with freshly painted lines to let you know where you should park your car! Inside, however, there were about five PLs sitting around the bar, a dancer working on stage and a slim, attractive bar tender. When I come in when it's like this, I set a time on my watch to get me to leave in 1/2 hour if things aren't getting better. I sit down at the far end and get a lager. Music is hiphop. Dancers are close to 100% African American and, when more crowded, with a wide range of body types, though the average dancer tends to be curvier. Customers are the usual diverse collection of horn dogs, black, white, hispanic, asian. I don't think there's a corner of the globe that hasn't been represented here at one time or another. It's good to know that there is in fact something that can bring all men together.
Guy to my left is talking on his cell phone, loudly about a business deal. Really annoying. The dancers change -- the one coming down goes the other way around the bar. Some guy at the opposite side of the bar starts pounding the bar, evidently to get the attention of the new dancer. Also, really annoying. I'm nursing my beer, thinking about how much longer I want to hang out before trying some place else.
