The Pros and Cons of Standardization
First of all, anyone going to a strip club in the greater Hampton Roads area has to know what level of service to expect. It’s just not going to be anything that I would ever expend real money on. But, as I was here on business, I stopped. The club is right by Ft. Eustis, but their clientele is not military. The exterior of the building is not terribly inviting; drab beige and a terrible parking lot. Next door is a regular bar and what used to be another strip club, JB’s Gallery of Girls. There are a few no-tell motels also nearby, making the area look shabbier than perhaps it is. But the real surprise was on the inside.
Headlights must have stuck some serious money into the club, because the interior is very clean and well laid out. There is a large central dance stage, a smaller stage by the front, along with a pool table and a couple of slot machine looking games (no slots in VA bars, so who knows). There was a kitchen in the back and VIP through a separate door in the front. The entrance is cordoned off so you have to pass through a metal detector to get in. When I was there it was very slow, so nobody was manning the front door. I tried to get in, but the bartender flagged me down, checked my ID (lol) and made me empty my pockets of metal to get through.
At the bar there was a food menu (I declined) and decent prices on drinks (bottled beer was $5.50). The restroom was clean and I did not have a reason to try the ATM, because: this is Headlights. The dances here are expensive and zero mileage. Because Virginia, this is a basically a bikini bar, since alcohol is served.
