Saturday at Oasis

I haven’t been to Oasis for 4+ years, and most of the reviews over the last year or so have not been inspiring until very recently. I was in South Philly Saturday and decided to take a chance. I will say that either the mediocre reviews were wrong or the club has recently made significant improvements. Based on this one visit I will not hesitate to return.

The excellent recent review by Manuellabore very accurately describes the layout of the place. It’s located on Essington Avenue, which was almost deserted this Saturday. Parking is adequate but the lot is starting to show its age. No cover or id check. The security at the entrance asked me to empty pockets and walk through the metal detector, but he was returning my stuff almost before I got through the detector. No id check.

The club was quite dark. Even though the day outside was heavily overcast it took a rather long time for eyes to adjust that I could get a reasonable view of the stage. A large rectangular bar surrounds two stages, each with a pole. I got a bottle of water for $5 from a pleasant looking lady. At the time I got there, about 4:00, there were a half dozen patrons and only 3-4 dancers in evidence. Over the hour I was there the numbers increased, especially for the dancers.
