Pleasant Diversion

I stop at Sparky’s maybe two or three times a year when I happen to be passing through the area, but always in the afternoon, so keep that in mind as you read this review. You should also know that, in general, clubs in North Carolina suck, with dances that are low-mileage and expensive – like $30-$40 or more. This place is an exception to that, though generally nothing illegal goes on here.

My most recent visit was on a Saturday from about 1:30 - 4:00 pm. Free parking in a large, paved lot. You walk in through an anteroom with a metal detector that never fails to go off, but in the afternoon, no one is there to hear it. As you step into the club itself, you stop at the front desk where they ask for your ID and the cover charge, which on this afternoon was $4.00. Bottled water was $3.00 at the bar. Alcoholic drinks are available. Afternoons here are pretty laid back, but I’ve been told by a few dancers that it’s a *very* different place at night.

On your left, there is a large U-shaped bar and a pool table or two. On your right, there are two stages – a large one with two poles and, next to it, a small, circular one with a single pole. Music comes out of a juke box on the wall, which the girls feed dollars into (which you will often be asked to provide), so the songs will all be full length. During the day, there is very little stage dancing, but the girls are usually pretty good about circulating and approaching customers at the bar. Occasionally, one of them would dance, topless, on the small stage, but as far as I can tell, this place is really about the private dances.
