Everybody has a bad day. My visit, much anticipated from the lofty ranking, was a disaster, but part of that is my fault. Anyway, the tale of the Club Trek From Hell follows. Laugh or cry or both.
First of all, don't follow the map you currently see on TUSCL (sorry). I got hopelessly lost because US 30 is now an expressway several miles south of the old road where the club is. I'll spare you the gory details, but from Rt. 30 you need to take the Rt. 602 exit north through the hamlet of North Robinson. A mile out the other side is the intersection you've been looking for.
You'd think my troubles were over when I found it, but nooooooo. This rural intersection, miles from anyplace, was blocked by half-a-dozen emergency vehicles with lights flashing and cops directing traffic. As it was dark by now, my two thoughts were 1) they're being raided or 2) the place is burning down. Not wanting to be part of either I retreated to regroup.
