After a lapse of several years,...
After a lapse of several years, there I was back in Boston again, early on a Wednesday evening, walking down Lagrange Street. The once-seedy establishment across the street from Centerfolds has apparently moved elsewhere (thank God), and that leaves Centerfolds as the upscale successor. I went in, paid the cover, and proceeded to the well-stocked bar, which accommodated my request for a Johnny Walker Black with a twist. (I remember when strip club bars had only J.W. Red and refused to do twists). To my further surprise, the dancers were downright decent looking women who knew the terpsicorean art rather well. Although years ago in this neighborhood I could not have claimed these virtues for any club, Centerfolds in Boston is still not up to the attributes of its counterparts out west or even to the clubs of Providence, R.I. I noticed that a couple of customers were sitting and chatting with the talent, but I had no such luck. I was, however, approached by a good-looking brunette masseuse for a backrub. With her looks, I didn't hesitate to say "yes," particularly since not much else seemed to be going on for me. Her massage was very good: she found the knots in my shoulders that were probably caused by my venturing into this neighborhood and experiencing the stiffness of this club). If you read the earlier review by James, you'll find hope that there's life behind the scenes at Centerfolds -- but I didn't see it. My regret is not having asked the masseuse about how the Club operates. Husbands should beware that a guy's clothing gets saturated with airborne perfume at Centerfolds; the establishment would do well to add more fresh air to their ventilation system.
