When asked why I went to Lima, Peru, all I could say was, “because it was there?” In part, I was encouraged by others who had been there including a fellow monger who posted a lot of information and was highly successful. Mongering is a sport, and I am no where near in that monger’s league, so his advice was valuable, but I had some personal issues that kept me from truly enjoying the city. One of which included blowing my Friday night by getting locked out of the apartment I was renting through Air B&B. I ended up having a good time in Lima, as just exploring the city’s red-light options was great fun.

There is a website focused on Lima, www.pateron.com/home, run by Byun211 that was helpful. He posts most of his stuff on YouTube so you can see some of it for free, but I subscribed anyway. Turned out to be a good move, as the guy who runs the site was very helpful when I contacted him directly. He runs tours, but wasn’t in Lima when I was. There was another monger that I was going to connect with, but he sent me a message to say that Columbia was so great for him, he wasn’t leaving. And there was another monger tour operator, but for the $150-$300US he was asking for strip club tours, I could get a lot of action on my own for that kind of money.

Sunday came and I was flying back to the USA early Monday morning. I didn’t want to leave Lima without leaving at least one genetic deposit. Public transit is almost nonexistent. There are lots of buses, but they are all privately owned. An assistant to the driver steps out when the bus stops and shouts out where the bus is going. So if you don’t know the city, getting to your destination by bus can be challenging. There is a government-run bus system that works something like a metro system, but there is only one path and it crosses the surface streets, so it has to stop for some traffic lights. It is cheap ($1.40US one way), relatively fast compared to being in traffic, and frequent. Cabs are cheap, but you must negotiate first. Uber is cheap, but you have to deal with traffic, which is UGLY. I would not risk driving in Lima. The fact that cars there do not all look like post Demolition Derby contestants is amazing. They cut each other off, drive with their horns, and things like stoplights are merely advisory. If you are a pedestrian, DO NOT wear dark colors as your chances of being rundown go from 60 percent in daylight to 95 percent after dusk. Crosswalks are just targeting zones.
