Best Club In The Triangle
Went on a Saturday night, roughly 10pm. Be warned, the club can be difficult to find and access if you're not used to Durham! It's situated on a one-way street that runs parallel to the train tracks, bright neon sign. Enter the surface parking lot (NOT the parking deck) on Ramseur Street and you'll be fine. Parking is free at night, and there are no attendants.
It's a basement club. Upon entering, you walk down a flight of stairs and encounter the front desk. Cover charge for members is $8, while nonmembers pay $12 (members get in free on Wednesdays). Once inside, the club is intimate and well laid out, low ceilings and televisions always showing a game throughout. The bar is circular style, planted almost in the middle of the club with a lone, very nice man usually planted behind. I drank PBRs all night, which are reasonably priced at $5.25. Lighting is dim, but not so dim that you can't see. Strikes a nice ambiance. Clientele seems mixed between young and old, black and white, Durhamites and Duke students.
Best thing about this club is the dance stage! As you may have read from others, it's level on the floor, completely non elevated, center of the club. Velvet ropes mark the runaway on either side. For anyone who wants to tip - and you should! - you get to be face to face with the dancer who usually offers a little contact. Just don't wander too far onto the dance floor. The DJ will scold you. Speaking of which, he plays two songs, roughly three minutes each, doesn't intrude much besides intros between songs. After two, the dancer hustles to a small side stage (also with a pole) and is replaced on the main.
