Daytime at the PC
While the regularity of our afternoon visits to Players Club has diminished in the past couple years, we still like to drop in about once a month (used to be weekly). I think I have mentioned before how there seemed to be a gradual shift in the talent from some old favorites to a newer, younger crew with more of a Latin vibe. This includes a transition away from a daytime soundtrack that used to be primarily hip-hop and rock. But, who cares? We didn't show up to just listen to music. Other changes include higher drink prices and looks like some newly upholstered seats.
On our most recent Wednesday afternoon visit, we showed up about 4:30pm, and the parking lot was relatively crowded. There are actually 2 lots. The south side of the building is shared with an adult bookstore next door. The north side is just for PC, and will often have a parking attendant (fee) after 5pm.
Once inside, while adjusting to the drastic lighting change, I could tell most of the seats in the small club were occupied and there was a decent number of ladies (15-20) working the room as well. We were lucky enough to find a table with a couple chairs near the center stage. Before the waitress could stop by and take my drink order, a taller Cuban approaches me from behind my chair, strokes the back of my head with one hand, steps around to the front of my seat, bends over and reaches down to offer up a hell of a lingering handshake. “Would you like a pirate dance?” in very accented English. As tempting as it was, I asked for a little time to settle in and at least start drinking a beer($9) before I head to the back. I also asked her to please stop by a bit later, but they rarely do.
