Almost Scored
I arrived about 10:00 p.m. on a Friday. Scores is situated in a small, narrow strip mall on Daley Mabry, and parking is extremely limited. A valet station was set up out front, but I took a Lyft from my nearby hotel so I have no idea what parking costs. The cover charge was $20, but waived with a military ID. I tipped the door girl a few bucks and went in.
I’ve been in a few Scores branded clubs over the years. They can vary dramatically in quality. Scores Tampa is definitely one of the better locations. It has a modern, upscale look, is well maintained, and seems professionally run. There were a couple of large bouncers in suits with wires in their ear monitoring things, but they were unobtrusive for the most part. At one point, a guy in suit came up to me, identified himself as the manager, asked how I was doing, and said to be sure and let him know if he could do anything for me.
As one would expect on a Friday night, the club was pretty busy, but I found an open seat at the bar. I was a bit hungry, so I asked for menu. Scores has a full menu with fancy steakhouse prices ($50 steaks). I was only looking for a snack, so I got the bacon wrapped shrimp appetizer, which was very good.
