Busy, party SC on a Saturday night
By far my favorite SC out of the main ones in Hawaii (this one, RockZa, Ballarrinas, 939, Femme Nu) when it comes to partying and talking to dancers. First and foremost, HBN (Hawaii By Night) is one of those SCs where it's all about the PD, so be prepared to be approached multiple times (sometimes by the same dancer) any time of any day ITC. Don't be surprised if you get approached within 5 feet of walking past the entrance area. Personally, I like this, but some people don't. I'd suggest getting at least one PD from a dancer if you're here; it's worth it imo. Due to it's small size and being located in the heart of tourist Waikiki, HBN is fairly busy almost every night, especially after 10 pm, and always packed on the weekends. If you're looking for a classy SC this place is definitely not that. It's clean but just not classy like 939. Bottle service is non-existent in this place.
Went at 10:30/11 pm on a Saturday. From the outside, you can't even tell it's a SC. HBN is located on the second floor of a building next to a tiki bar and some late night food joints. Once you enter you are greeted by mama-san and the bouncer. They're strict about having your vax card like most other establishments in HI, so have that with you. Cover charge is $10. Part of the appeal of this place for me is that once you pay the cover charge and turn the corner of the wall, it opens up to a big party room (about the size of two Hawaii living rooms or one mainland living room). Like most party environments, this place can get a little hot, especially if you're used to colder weather in the midwest and east coast, so wear something light if you get hot easily. There is only one stage with two poles, not lifted, which some could argue is just a dance floor with a tip rail. The stage wall is one giant mirror for the dancers to use. It's surrounded by ottoman benches, which I found comfortable, followed by a walking space down the length of the club and then more benches & high tables lining up the walls. The PD areas are basically open closet-like spaces in the walls with seating for 1-2 people, which also happen to be the size of small walk-in closets. Like I said, pretty clean place, but like any small area it can get a little messy. The boss lady and the dancers do a good job cleaning up any trash though. Music is loud, no doubt about it. Not as bad as college house parties, but loud enough to the point where I've had to ask the dancer to repeat what she said and vice versa. PD areas are the opposite- very easy to listen and talk to the dancer. DJ can sometimes get annoying imo, like when he says to get up from the tip rail and move to the back if you're not tipping. Or when he tells some dancers to do a better job whenever all of them are up on stage for the mass tips. He doesn't act on it but just says it, which can still get annoying. Most of his music, which I'm a fan of, is hip-hop, given the party atmosphere. Lighting is solid- a lot of the light comes from the dance floor panels and the wall mirror helps spread the light out.
When it comes to the dancers, I honestly think HBN, alongside 939, has the hottest dancers out of all the clubs in HI. A couple dancers I'd highly recommend talking to are Veronica and Raya. When I went in on Saturday, there were 20-25 dancers, which is a lot considering the size of the place. Like any SC, some dancers here are pushy/some are not, some are smooth/some are not, etc. But generally speaking, all of the dancers there were nice to me and the ones I talked to were easy-going and fun to talk to. I saw dancers of all ethnicities here- many mixed Asian/hapa, a fair amount of full Asian, 2-3 AA, 7-10 white, a couple Latinas.
