I have no idea how they stay in business
Over in the Forums section of tuscl right now, there's a discussion about how much you should tip to get a dancer's attention. The answer, obviously, is "more." At the Lamplighter, that would sometimes be zero. Let me describe the setup.
The club is a small, nondescript building next to a defunct gas station. If you're not paying attention, you could easily drive right past it. (Not really a problem; there's another club 30 seconds down the road.) There's a small, but usually adequate, parking lot. On Tuesday afternoon, there were six cars in the lot, so I easily found a spot.
As you enter the front door, you're facing a stage taking up most of the opposite wall. It was empty. The remaining six feet of the back wall form the end of the champagne room, which is an upholstered chair and a curtain. This was also empty; it's always empty. ($40+100+tip)
