Return to the KOD
This review will actually cover two visits -- Friday late night and Saturday afternoon.
I've visited the KOD periodically since the 90s, and even though it had been a good ten years since my last visit, the place still hasn't changed. At the front entrance is security where you have to present your ID for scanning (okay, maybe that's one thing that has changed since my last visit). The place opens about 3:30pm and dancers start up about 4pm; those first couple hours there's no cover. Late night Friday, it was a $10 cover, still not bad.
The place still has the two tiers of stages, the front area with the lower stage, the upper stage in the back area, each with its own perv row, which can fill up pretty fast, depending on the dancer. It seemed to me that the more exotic-looking dancers tended to get a larger stage-side crowd. Nuts, Friday night, it seemed like when a blonde was on stage, perv row almost emptied out. One dancer on stage and a drunk were giving each other static about tipping. It didn't get out of hand (I can't help but wonder if he might've been a regular and they knew each other), and security didn't step in. For those who like the occasional odd sight, on the upper stage is a huge prop shaped like a stripper shoe, large enough for the dancers to sit or even stand on. The dancers start off on the lower stage, do two dances, and -- when it's open -- do their next two dances on the upper stage.
