The haystack needle

I was concerned upon arrival (8pm on a Saturday night) that I was in for a dismal evening: a few subdued performers before a small and silent handful of customers. I’d paid $30 to get in (a mystery porn star was supposed to be part of the evening’s entertainment), and saw that you have to tip $2 to sit at the stage. Seemed like a cruel and unusual thing to do for these early dances, as it seemed to keep away those who just wanted to check out who was in the house tonight (the girls weren’t out on the floor mingling).

Then Violet emerged and flashed me the most adorable smile. A tall, slender brunette with a model’s body and a magazine-cover face, I saw that she was headed for the stage and planted myself there with a $20 on the bar. Nobody joined me there, so she danced for me and we chatted a tiny bit.
