It's been 50 weeks since I last visited Sugar 44, just prior to the last COVID shutdown. Unless you are going west on Thomas Rd the best way to enter is off 44th St in the alley just behind the Wells Fargo Bank. The parking lot is small but adequate for the size of the club. I was met by by a doorman as I entered around 4PM on Saturday. As you enter there is a bar directly in front of you, a single pole stage to the left and clean bathroom to your right. There are two VIP areas, one across from the bar and another raised one next to the DJ booth. Both VIP areas provide enough privacy, I prefer the one next to the DJ booth (he can't see into the VIP). There is at least one Champagne Room back beyond the stage to the left. Tables and chairs are set up around three sides of the stage and divided bench seating along two walls. The lighting is just right but the music too loud.

When I entered there was a dancer on her second song of her set, it was over a half hour before the next dancer took the stage. I stayed for slightly over one hour and by the time that I was leaving only two more dancers took the stage for a two song set. The music was definitely not picked for my demographic, mostly urban I guess it's called, you know the type of music with mostly M***er F***er, P***y, N***er..... It was over an hour and I had already decided to leave when the first dancer approached me, Sativa, not to be confused with Indica I guess because it has a more uplifting effect I'm told. She was young, slim, might have gotten a dance if I hadn't already decided to leave and she got called to the stage (third dancer on stage in over an hour). There were about 10 PLs but only two had company. I never saw anyone go VIP and only one lap dance the entire time I was there. The lap dance looked decent, PreCOVID type of intimacy.

I had a $5 Coke and tipped the male bartender $1, what happened to the hottest girl in the club being the bartender? Lap dances are $10. VIP dances are $20 each plus a one time $20 wristband purchase. There was no cover charge before 7PM. I've never known the price of the CR, but nothing ever happens there right? Only one of the three dancers that I saw on stage got any tips, that one got drizzled around $5 in $1s from one customer. It was a Saturday afternoon but I was wondering if the girls were even making tip out.

This was my favorite club last year but it's probably not going to get a return visit from me. Before it was a favorite of an older crowd and especially the girls who mostly had established regulars that visited frequently. I don't know if the line-up was different because it wasn't a weekday but missing were Mustang, London, Paris, Caliente, Crowley. I will be curious to see if this club continues to go away from it's former style and become an urban type club and whether that's going to be a good business decision. I might have to make a weekday visit to see if it really has changed.
