Post COVID HK mongering
This was my first time over the border since The Before Times, over a year ago. Even though people have been going there for months from The US, I didn't feel comfortable with a speak easy type club they had going, plus I hadn't had my vaccination. Maybe I was being overly cautious, but it didn't seem like the time was right to go a while back. But now, with my completed vaccination, I felt ready to rock, and rock I did. I popped my Cialis in the morning, as I feel it works better with more time to work its magic. I'm not 25 anymore, and appreciate the boost it gives me. 6 hours later, through sick traffic, I was at the border.
Got to the border at 6pm or so. The only border to walk across in San Ysidro is the one near the train station. Paid parking is the same as it was a year ago, at $8 an hour behind Jack In The Box. it's not cheap, but I haven't found a more convenient option. I masked up, and walked to the Mexican border as usual. No line at all. The guy asked me why I was there. I had heard that medical procedures got you in with little fuss. So I told him I had dental surgery scheduled in the morning, and was going to stay the night, and do it first think the next day. I also told him I might have to stay another day if there were complications. He asked what Dentist I was going to, and I showed him a screenshot of a real Dentist near the border in TJ. He kinda rolled his eyes, sighed, and filled out my visa thing. He's not stupid, and probably knew exactly why I was there. But no matter, I was in. I got a cab at the usual place, and a nice guy who spoke pretty good english took me there for my offer of $5. On the way you can see all the tents from the refugee issues we hear about on the news. It was slow in town compared to what I remember from a 13 months ago. He said this was actually busy from what it had been. I really started to feel bad for the people of Mexico, and TJ. They had almost no help from their government through this. So I was more generous than normal. Literally a few extra bucks don't mean that much to me. So I gave him a $5 tip, trying to do my part to make a guy a hard working guy's day a little bit better. You do you when you decide what services are worth, I'll do me.
Got my VIP card for $60 at the door of HK. Had to go through metal detectors, temp check, and pat down everytime you go in the club. It gave me 70% off the room and a free drink once a day. There are more benefits to the card, but those are the ones I took advantage of. If you use that card on a Mon/Tues, you pretty much break even if you only use it once. If you use it 2X or more you come out WAY ahead if you visit on those days. Only 20% off other days of the week. I went upstairs to the hotel, got the same security treatment as I did downstairs. Checked in, gave them a $30 deposit, and they gave me a wristband that let me bypass security for the rest of my trip. I don't know id that was an oversite on their part, or procedure to let me pass with no future questions, but that's what happened.
