Fun, exciting weekend
After reading the reviews on this site, I needed to check this place out. Came here on the weekend of Nov 6-8. Flew in from the east coast. Not that many people flying during covid, it was very comfortable. Got to San Diego airport on a beautiful afternoon and asked for directions to the border. I was told to take the San Ysidro trolley Blue line. It's about 2.5 miles from the airport. Easy to Uber or take the MTS bus. I walked because I was not in a hurry during my vacation. Took me about an hour to get there on foot. Trolley was not crowded at all. Takes about 30-45 mins to get to the border. Very convenient because it takes you right to the point of entry on foot for the border. I could not believe how easy it was. 5 minute walk from there to border station. I believe it was Pedeast. I was the only foreigner crossing at the time, so I had to show my passport and mexican tourist card. Make sure you print out a tourist card and fill it out before you go there. I read other people had to pay $30 if you did not have one. Agent glanced at my passport stamped my card. Got in line and was in Mexico 5 minutes later.
If you are staying a hotel cascadas, take the shuttle they have waiting at the border. Tip the driver a couple dollars and they will tell you anything you want to know. If you are just going for the monger scene, it does not make a lot of sense to get pesos. The hotel and the clubs all take dollars. I got $200 worth of pesos and used $25 before I left. There are money exchange businesses on the the same street as hong kong. I noticed that it is better to buy pesos in the US and sell them in Mexico. I do not know if that was just that weekend or it is always like that.
If you plan to go for a couple days, get a room. It makes things so much simpler. I stayed at hotel cascadas which is above the club. They upsell you a VIP card. On the weekends, it gets you a free drink at the club and 20% off your room per night. It also gets you half price lapdances. I am not sure it makes a ton of sense on the weekends but I got one anyway. It's good for three months. The hotel is a 3 star hotel. It's clean, but it is a bit old. The rooms are well-kept and the bathrooms are clean. Nothing spectacular though.
