Shabby, But Not Too Shabby
Candyland is in a shabby looking building in a shabby looking section of southeast Memphis. There is what looks like a new wood fence blocking off the back section of the lot. I’m not sure if parking is allowed behind that fence because there was plenty of parking in the small lot out front.
There is a small anteroom immediately inside the front door where the friendly doorman sits behind a counter and collects the $10 cover fee. You can also purchase water, juice of soda from him, but no alcohol. This is a BYOB club.
Just past the counter to the left covered with a black curtain (actually, it looks like part of black sheet), is the door to the main club, which is slightly larger than an average size living room. Immediately to the left of the entrance to the club area is a row of three booths with black curtains over the doors. There is an odd looking, asymmetrical, polygonal shaped stage positioned lopsidedly in the left center of the room. The stage looks like it was someone’s high school shop project. Someone who failed shop. Cheap looking chairs line the exterior walls of the club.
