Early Afternoon at Oz
I visited Oz from about 1 to 2:30 in the afternoon on Tuesday March 10, 2020. I was on my way on the short trip from Sarasota to Dunedin and needed to kill some time before my hotel was likely to be ready. The club is easy enough to find on the northbound frontage road of US19. The parking lot is strange, there’s this huge lot full of cars that belong to some other business and it’s not very clear how far the club’s parking extends. There was no cover or ID or security check. The entrance is at the right front of the building. The interior shape of the building is rather complex with various jutting angles. The rest rooms are in the far back left. They are clean but small, men’s room only 2 stalls and 2 urinals. A question that arises is why does a strip club have a kiddie height urinal, although I guess there are some adults of small stature. Really I suppose it’s just the building code. The large L shaped bar is in a raised area roughly along the left and front walls, separated from the walls so there is seating all around it. The main stage juts out from the rear wall in the center of the room. It is a complex shape with some curved low sections with chairs and some higher sections where one has to stand to be next to the stage. The stage has 3 poles altogether. There are tables and chairs in front of and to the right of the stage. To the right of the stage and back toward the front wall is a raised VIP type area with its own one pole stage. The lap dance area is in the right rear.
The club was rather dark, with lots of flashing lights including some strobe effects. A bunch of TV screens were showing either ads for the club or music videos corresponding to the song being played. Smoking is allowed and there was a cigarette vending machine near the rest rooms. There was a free buffet that had half a dozen selections that looked OK but I did not partake. There were at the start only a few customers, mostly old guys like me, although this increased somewhat as time went on. I had a generic bottled water with an Oz label pasted on it for $4. I also bought drinks for a couple of dancers, mixed drinks were $7.50.
There were about 15 dancers, initially plenty for the crowd size. They were generally good looking with a variety of ethnicity , mostly white, one AA, one oriental, at least one Cuban. They did 2 song sets on stage on the only pole in use, covered to topless. The question discussed in recent reviews of this club is whether the dancers were wearing pasties. What I saw was about 1/3 of the dancers wearing pasties and the rest not wearing them. This was true both on stage and in the lap dance room, different group of dancers in these two places. Lap dances were $35 per song payable afterward, and then the dancer pays an attendant the club’s cut when exiting the dance area. Rooms were quoted as $100 for 15 minutes and $180 for 30 minutes with some fancier room also available for 30 minutes at a higher price. The lap dance cubicles had couches and curtains for walls, couches for 2 couples per cubicle. No one disturbed us during the dance. Dancers asked if I wanted to continue at song breaks.
